One click to see knots
Press N and the drawing is replaced by knots as they will be woven. Zoomed in, you see point paper. Pick up a tool and the drawing comes straight back.
Knots and looms
A map is a grid of knots, and how big those knots are gets decided at the loom. So a design in Toranj is a drawing with a home loom, and you can see it at any other loom without changing it.
A raj is the number of knots across 7 cm. That is why this patch is always the same width.
The knot counts use the same sums as the service. The picture is a simplified weave made for this page.
Then the buyer wants the same design at 50 raj, or a size smaller. When a map is pixels, that means resizing it and cleaning it knot by knot, or drawing it again. In Toranj the design stays a drawing and the knots are worked out from it. A new loom means a new map, and nobody redraws anything.
Both pictures are worked out in this page, from the same medallion.

Pick any raj and knot shape, or any reed and density. The same drawing is woven again by the same compiler, and the original is never overwritten. Copies from the library land on the knots of that loom too. A design drawn with whole-carpet symmetry is woven whole at any loom.
A knot is rarely square, and 1.15 wider than tall is common for hand work. Toranj keeps the shape in the sums, so a circle stays a circle on the carpet instead of only on the screen.
It finds knots no neighbour shares, rows with more than 8 colours, and colours too rare to be worth a spool. On a machine design you also see the whole design's frame count. It follows every edit, and two colours that look the same on the loom count as one.
Knot counts per colour are exact. Add the pile and the weight of your yarn and you get the weight per colour, heaviest first, with wastage added, ready for a wool order.
Remove single knots and specks, or smooth a jagged edge, on maps that came in from elsewhere. Each step can be undone.
