Map and output software from Iran

Toranj and Tooba

Tooba (TCDesigner) is about what comes out at the end: point paper, coded maps, colour cards, yarn reports and audio files for weaving. It works on image files, and its page says little about drawing, so a design often arrives from another program.

Where it is the better choice

  • Coded maps and audio files for weaving. Toranj has neither, and if your weavers work from them this settles it.
  • Colour cards for the dyer and printed customer reports.
  • Turning an image or a numeric map into a working map, including numeric maps back into designs.
  • Its own programming language and custom tools, for anyone who wants to build on it.

Where Toranj is the better choice

  • You draw the design here from nothing: vector pen, symmetry and a motif library. The drawing stays a drawing, so it can be woven again at another raj.
  • It opens in a browser on Mac or Windows, with no installation and no hardware lock.
  • The buyer gets a private link and comments on the flower they mean, with versions and approvals on record.
  • The free plan has every export, and no time limit.

Stay with it if

your weavers read coded maps or audio files, or most of your work is turning finished images into maps.

If you do move

You may not need to choose. Tooba's page says it reads indexed BMP, and Toranj exports 8-bit indexed BMP, so you could draw here and make the coded map there. We have not tried this path on Tooba ourselves. Older maps saved as 8-bit BMP or PNG come into Toranj knot for knot.

Try it on your own work

Toranj is by invitation for now. Ask for access, then draw a design, import a map you already have and judge for yourself.
