Carpet design software from Iran
Toranj and Booria
Booria is a full drawing program for machine and hand-knotted carpets, with more than 60 tools, a spiral pen for islimi, a border maker, filters for scans and a weave simulator. The same company also sells production software to machine carpet factories.
Where it is the better choice
- A longer list of drawing tools: 66 gradient modes, ARS and Pantone colours, masks, a border maker for round and polygonal shapes.
- Scan and photo work, which Toranj does only roughly.
- Simulation of weave defects and of the carpet in different yarns.
- Training after purchase, and a company you can sit down with.
Where Toranj is the better choice
- Moving a design to another raj has no steps and no limit. The knots are worked out again from the drawing.
- It runs in a browser, Mac included. Booria lists Windows only.
- You can try it on your own map before any sales talk.
- Buyers follow the work by private link and comment on the drawing, at no charge.

Stay with it if
you depend on its filters for scans and old maps, or you run a machine carpet factory on Booria's production software.
If you do move
Save a map as an 8-bit indexed BMP or PNG and import it to Toranj knot for knot. We have not tried Booria's own files. A map brought in this way stays knots, so to get the raj change you draw the design again in vectors.

Toranj is by invitation for now. Ask for access, then draw a design, import a map you already have and judge for yourself.
