Toranj beside the tools designers use.

We wrote down where each one beats Toranj and where it does not. We read what each vendor publishes about its own product, and if something is not on those pages, the table says so instead of guessing. Software changes, so check with the vendor before you buy anything, us included.

Side by side

Tooba, Booria and Naqsh Saz are the specialist carpet programs in Iran. Many designers also work in Photoshop and Corel, and go to one of these programs for output.

Outside Iran and in the factory

eDesigner is sold in Iran too and works beside tufting robots. Galaincha is known in Nepal and India. Texcelle is for a mill's production line.

Map and output software from Iran

Toranj and Tooba

Tooba (TCDesigner) is about what comes out at the end: point paper, coded maps, colour cards, yarn reports and audio files for weaving. It works on image files, and its page says little about drawing, so a design often arrives from another program.

Carpet design software from Iran

Toranj and Booria

Booria is a full drawing program for machine and hand-knotted carpets, with more than 60 tools, a spiral pen for islimi, a border maker, filters for scans and a weave simulator. The same company also sells production software to machine carpet factories.

Carpet map software from Iran

Toranj and Naqsh Saz

Naqsh Saz has been around for 28 years, by its own account, and of the tools here it is the one closest to what Toranj sets out to do. It covers hand-knotted, machine, tableau, kilim and gabbeh, and says size or weave type can change while the design's shape does not.

General image editor, often with Corel beside it

Toranj and Photoshop

Many designers draw in Photoshop because they already know it, and courses teach it: one pixel to a knot, Index mode, 30 to 50 colours, save as BMP. Line work often starts in Corel, and the map often ends in Tooba for its colour card and coded output.

Design, simulation and production software

Toranj and EFAB eDesigner

eDesigner covers hand-knotted, machine-woven, printed and robot-tufted carpets, it is sold in Iran too, and it sits next to EFAB's own tufting robots. It reaches further into production and room rendering than Toranj does.

Rug design software from Nepal

Toranj and Galaincha

Galaincha is what much of the hand-knotted trade in Nepal and India knows. It turns artwork into a weavable design at any size and quality, prints the graph, and renders the rug with pile height and mixed plies.

Factory CAD for tuft, carpet and Jacquard

Toranj and NedGraphics Texcelle

Texcelle is made for mills. It respects production limits, recolours and simulates, and connects to a long list of machines through paid add-ons. For a factory with those machines, it is a serious tool.
